Personal Data Retention & Accuracy

The Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018 says you must ensure that the personal information you use is ‘accurate and kept up to date’, and that personal information is not kept for longer than is necessary.

Data Controllers & Data Processors you know your data best. You should know what personal information you are processing and how long you are keeping it for. The Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018 does not tell you how long to keep information for. That's for you to decide. Retention is driven by your specific business purposes & any legal requirements. The Storage Limitation principle is better known as 'Data Retention'. The principle states: "Personal data must be kept in a form that permits identification of data subjects for no longer than is necessary for the purposes for which the data are processed".
