Non-Executive Voting Member (Finance & Data Protection)

The Jersey Data Protection Authority (JDPA) is seeking a Jersey-based, experienced Non-Executive Board Member with expertise in finance and data protection to contribute to its mission of safeguarding privacy and promoting best practices in the Island.

This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of data protection in Jersey while supporting the work of the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner (JOIC).

About the Role

As a voting member of the JDPA, you will provide strategic insights, financial expertise, and governance oversight. You will actively participate in Authority discussions, ensuring compliance with legal obligations and promoting high standards of corporate governance. Additionally, you will help raise awareness of key developments in data protection and contribute to the Authority’s effectiveness and sustainability.

Key Requirements

· Jersey based: Candidates must be resident in the Island.

· Finance & Accounting Expertise: Candidates must be a qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with a strong grasp of financial principles, particularly in a regulatory or public sector context.

· Data Protection Knowledge: Solid understanding of data protection principles, including the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018 (DPJL), and its implications for businesses and individuals.

· Strategic Leadership: Ability to provide independent, strategic input to the JDPA, influencing decisions and ensuring best practices in governance.

· Risk & Compliance Oversight: Experience identifying and mitigating risks, ensuring the Authority operates effectively and within its legal framework.

· Stakeholder Engagement: Strong ability to build relationships, challenge constructively, and collaborate with key partners across public and private sectors.

· Commitment to Public Interest: Uphold integrity, transparency, and accountability in line with the Nolan Principles of Public Life.

Exclusions 

To safeguard the independence of the JDPA, candidates should not have worked for or supported the Government of Jersey within the last 12 months. The candidate must be resident in Jersey and locally qualified. We cannot accept applications from outside the Island for this position.
