Seeking your views – JDPA consultation on revised fees

Act now: JDPA's fee changes could affect your organisation

The Jersey Data Protection Authority (JDPA) is consulting on significant changes to registration fees and your input is essential.

Why this matters

The current fee structure has remained unchanged since January 2020. JDPA is seeking to introduce a fair, affordable, risk-based, and sustainable model to keep Jersey compliant and competitive.

Paul Vane, Information Commissioner, is urging all organisations to participate in the consultation. He stresses that the 'JDPA's independent role is vital to Jersey's economy. Most Island businesses rely on the secure flow of personal data between Jersey and countries in the European Economic Area (EEA) to operate effectively. These data flows are possible because Jersey has received an 'adequacy' decision from the European Commission, allowing personal data to move freely between Jersey and EEA countries'.

Objectives of the proposed changes
  • Address the gap between public and private sector fees
  • Offset RPI increases since the last review
  • Create a sustainable funding model for JDPA's regulatory work
  • Streamline fee-setting to reduce costs for the public
Key proposals
  • 50% annual fee reduction for organisations with fewer than 50 full-time employees (FTEs)
  • Increased charges for larger entities with more than 50 FTEs
  • A new band based on prior-year revenues
  • Revised fees for administered entities
