Sue Fernandes

Community Engagement Lead

Sue leads JOIC’s community engagement programme, delivering outreach initiatives that educate all sectors of the community, including schools and colleges, about local data protection law and its obligations and rights, as well as the importance of safeguarding personal information.

Through workshops, events and collaborative partnerships, Sue helps foster a culture of privacy, promoting our vision for privacy to become instinctive for individuals and organisations.

With a strong background in informal education and community development, Sue brings a wealth of experience to her role. Her background as a Senior Youth Worker saw her manage youth projects islandwide focusing on supporting the social, emotional, and educational development of children and young people, often in collaboration with multi-agency teams, charities, and schools.

Sue’s experience engaging with young people and families has shaped her inclusive approach to outreach and education.

Sue possesses a BA (Hons) in Youth and Community Studies, a Joint Negotiating Committee qualification as a youth work practitioner, a Level 3 Award in Education & Training and a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. Sue has also completed the Jersey Safeguarding Partnership Board’s ‘Train the Trainer’ course and is the JOIC’s Designated Safeguarding Lead.
